White fungus disease is the new talk of the town. The initial cases of white fungus disease have been surfaced in Patna, Bihar. Till now Bihar healthcare ministry has reported 4 cases of white fungus disease. As the black fungus is already causing a hazardous ruckus among people, this new white fungus has elevated the problems more. White fungus disease also occurs due to the microscopic spores of white fungi. These fungi are normally found everywhere and they are not virulent. But if a person with weak immunity comes in contact with the fungal spore, there are high chances of that person getting infected with white fungus disease. As many people are concerned as well as curious about the fatality of a white fungus disease, so, questions like is white fungus disease more hazardous than black fungus are very normal to ask. According to various health experts, this newly surfaced disease is almost similar to black fungus disease in its mode of spreading but simultaneously it is 4 times more lethal than the black fungus disease. This disease is quite a new entry in our medical world so the Indian Health Department is yet to release diagnosis and management advisory for it.

The white fungus disease symptoms have been confirmed by the four cases found in Bihar.
The doctors have reported that all the patients showed white fungus disease symptoms
like;
  • Respiratory symptoms similar to Covid-19
  • Inflammation and swelling
  • Persistent headache
  • White lesion appearance

The symptoms of white fungus infection can be identified by a CT scan or X-ray. It can also be
detected by HRCT. Mostly the white fungus disease symptoms are similar to Covid-19
symptoms. People are advised to take serious precautions regarding the appearance of any
such symptoms.

Who is at most risk?

White fungus disease is quite similar to black fungus in terms of its spread. It affects people who have weak immunity. That’s why people with weak immunity are at high risk to get infected by white fungus disease. More specifically the people who are prone to white fungus disease is mainly affected by these factors;
  • Undergoing steroid treatment
  • Diabetic patients
  • Covid-19 patients
  • HIV patients
  • People with weak immunity
The white fungi spores thrive on carbohydrates and sugars. That’s why people with diabetes
are more prone to get white fungus infection. HIV patients have already very low
immunity which makes them a very easy target of white fungus disease. This disease affects
the lungs and other body parts of the body that have a thin lining such as the stomach, skin,
kidney, private parts, mouth, etc.

Treatment and prevention

This rare fungal infection has been surfaced just recently, but it has long been in existence as the disease named candidiasis. According to medical experts, white fungus disease is caused by a type of fungus called Candidiasis

The white fungus disease is still now being treated by anti-fungal drugs. The most important points for prevention are maintaining personal hygiene and strengthening the immunity system. Healthcare Ministry has also issued an advisory to regulate the use of steroids in the treatment. Diabetic patients should balance their insulin levels.
